English Language Institute

Image of welcome to Newberg sign

The English Language Institute is located on the Newberg campus of George Fox University. Newberg is a small town in the northwest part of the state of Oregon on the Pacific Rim. Located 23 miles west of Portland, Oregon, Newberg's population is about 17,300 people.

The safe and friendly atmosphere of a small town offers students the opportunity to focus on their studies and university activities. Students may visit nearby Portland for shopping and cultural enrichment, and they may drive about two hours to the Pacific Coast or the Cascades mountains for outdoor sports and recreation. The climate of this part of Oregon is comfortable though often wet, and rich, green vegetation creates a pleasant landscape throughout the school year.

George Fox University is a liberal arts university with an enrollment of more than 2,000 students. It is a Christian institution of higher learning founded in Newberg in 1891 by the Quakers. The campus is pleasant, clean, and attractive, with both historic and modern facilities, including a sports center, auditorium, science center, library, student union building, and student residence halls. Lawns, a stream, and a wooded area give the campus a parklike quality.

George Fox University has been growing during the last 13 years, more than quadrupling in the number of students, with the addition of undergraduate and graduate programs and construction of many new facilities. Most campus buildings offer hook-ups for students to use to connect their computers to the unversity electronic mail network and the Internet.

George Fox University seeks to help students develop a healthy intellectual and spiritual life and so maintains an environment free of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. The English Language Institute supports the values of the George Fox University community.
