Robert Melendy received the BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University in 1992 and 1994, respectively, with a graduate research concentration in Continuum Mechanics. He went on to receive a second MS degree in Electrical Engineering from Oregon State University in 1998 with a graduate research concentration in State-Space Control Systems and Nonlinear Control Systems theory.

During this time span he concurrently worked as an engineer and research intern at Burelbach Industries, Hewlett-Packard, and Mitsubishi Silicon America. Melendy joined the faculty at George Fox in 2006 and in 2008 he received his PhD degree in Mathematics and Mathematics Education from Oregon State University. His research emphasis involved identifying collegiate students’ conceptual abilities to apply precalculus mathematics to problems in undergraduate physics.

Melendy is a member of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), The Electrical and Computer Engineering Honor Society, Sigma Xi (ΣΞ), The Scientific Research Society, and of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). His current research interests involve the development of effective educational practices that promote the advancement of physics and engineering education.
