The Conference on Faith & History - October 7-9, 2010 - Undergraduate Student Conference, October 6-7

The biennial meeting of the Conference on Faith and History will take place on October 7-9, 2010, at George Fox University's Newberg, Oregon, campus.  This event will be preceded by the Undergraduate Student Conference on October 6-7.

Registration

Registration fees prior to September 30, 2010:

  • $40.00 for undergrad student (this includes the student luncheon on Thursday and the banquet on Friday)
  • $65.00 for all others (includes the banquet on Friday).  Those who are not undergrads will be asked to pay  $15.00 if they want to attend the student luncheon on Thursday and their total would be $80.00.
  • Spousal rate for partial conference (includes Friday banquet) $30.00
  • Spousal rate for entire conference (includes Friday banquet) $65.00

Late Registration Fees after September 30, 2010:

  • $80.00 (if non-undergrads plan to attend the Thursday student luncheon, please add $15.00 for a total of $95.00) 

Registration fees may be paid with a check via mail by using our Registration Form.

We also have an online registration form, payment to be accepted at the conference.  There will be a 2.75% handling fee for credit card payments at the conference.

Restaurants

There are a variety of restaurants in Newberg. We have compiled a list of all the restaurants in Newberg, some of which are within walking distance.  On Thursday, October 7, 2010, food is available on campus at the Bruin Den.  However, Friday and Saturday, October 8-9, 2010, the campus is on mid-semester holiday and food will be unavailable except for those meals provided by the conference. 

Nearby Attractions

The nearby Hoover-Minthorn Museum offers tours of the boyhood home of Herbert Hoover.  The museum is three blocks south of the Hoover Academic Building at Second and River streets.

The Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, which is the home of the Spruce Goose, is located in McMinnvilee,12 miles from Newberg.  Museum tours are available as well as an IMAX movie.

Meeting Scheduled

Dictionary of Latin American Christian Biography: Information and Brainstorming meeting.  As part of our organization’s Latin America initiative, begun in 2009, members of the CFH will soon embark on a new project to create an online Dictionary of Latin American Christian Biography. We will be partnering with members of the Fraternidad Teológica Latinoamericana (FTL), as well as Christian historians from Central and South America. 

Please join us on Friday, October 8, at 2:30 p.m. in Hoover 104 for an initial discussion of the project, where we will seek to create a working committee that will begin to take project forward. If you cannot attend, but have personal contacts in Latin American Christian institutions of higher learning or pastoral training, please pass names and contact details on to Ron Morgan at rxm03c@acu.edu.

Book Publishers

Scholar's Choice, Boydell and Brewer and Barclay Press will be at the conference.

Published Books

Tables will be available for members to bring their recently published books (within five years) to display and flyers/information.

Future Events

Space will be available for members to display flyers on events and/or information of interest to other members.

Campus Map/Driving Directions

A campus map is available with driving directions from Portland International Airport (PDX).  The drive from the airport is about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic.  An interactive campus map is also available. This map shows the location of the three motels to the George Fox campus.

Parking on Campus

Wednesday and Thursday, visitor parking is available ONLY in the Fulton Street parking lot located at Fulton Street and Villa Road. Follow the "Event Parking" signs.

Friday and Saturday, visitor parking is available in the following parking lots since the campus is on mid-semester holiday:

  • Bauman/Ross Center
  • Fulton Street
  • Hoover/Wood-Mar
  • Stevens Center
  • Villa Road
