Benefits of a Bachelor of Science Major Nursing Degree
The Bachelor of Science Major Nursing is the critical first step for a career in professional nursing. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (CCNE) and other leading nursing organizations recommend the bachelor's degree as the minimum educational requirement for professional nursing practice.
A nurse with the Bachelor of Science Major Nursing degree is the only basic nursing graduate prepared to practice in all health care settings - critical care, ambulatory care, public health, and mental health. They therefore have the greatest employment flexibility of any entry-level RN.
To meet the more complex demands of today's health care environment, a federal advisory panel has recommended that at least two-thirds of the basic nurse workforce hold baccalaureate or higher degrees by 2010.
A Bachelor of Science degree is preferred. More nurse executives are indicating their desire for the majority of their nursing staff to be prepared at the baccalaureate level to meet the more complex demand of today's patient care.
