Application Requirements

Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

  • Each applicant must complete this mandatory entrance examination 
  • The TEAS exam was developed by Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI), and includes four parts: Reading Comprehension, English Language Usage, Science and Math (based on 10th-12th grade level).
  • Online registration will be available May 15. Test dates are held in August and September only.
  • Students take the test only once.
  • Cost: $40 exact cash or check made payable to GFU-Dept. of Nursing. Payments must be received prior to or at time of testing.
  • Exam results will automatically be provided to the Department of Nursing.
  • All tests are only conducted on the GFU-Newberg campus. All tests are held in Lemmons 3.  
  • No calculators or cell phones allowed in testing area. You can bring paper and pencil.
  • Photo ID required
  • You may purchase an optional study guide by contacting ATI at 800-667-7531.
  • Scores needed to be considered for admission to the nursing program are those scores that are in the Proficient, Advanced, or Exemplary levels.

Two Essays (submit both essays)

Essay #1 - Why do you want to pursue nursing as a profession? 200 - 250 words

Essay #2 - In 500 words or less describe how you anticipate the following interpretative statement guiding you in your nursing     education?

A code of ethics is a fundamental document for any profession. It provides a social contract with the society served, as well as ethical and legal guidance to all members of the profession. One of the interpretative statements of American Nursing                 Association (ANA) Code of Ethics states: The nurse owes the same duties to self as to others, including the responsibility to preserve integrity and safety, to maintain competence, and to continue personal and professional growth.

Format:  1" margins, double space, 12 font - Times Roman

Recommendation & Appraisal Form

Two Recommendation and Appraisal forms are to be submitted. 

1.  One from a university professor (preferably science).

2.  One from someone who knows the applicant's interest in the nursing profession.

All forms are to be mailed directly to the nursing department (address provided on the form).

Applicant will be notified by email when a form has been received by the department.
