AN APPEAL TO LIBRARIES, CHURCHES,
AND INDIVIDUAL READERS IN THE WEST
The democratization of Eastern Europe has made it possible for institutions and individuals there to receive the mail unhindered. OPREE can now be mailed to libraries, churches and individuals. We offered OPREE gratis to the libraries of theological schools as well as to a number of other libraries, institutes, and scholars in all of Eastern Europe and many of them responded gratefully to this offer. But we do not have sufficient funds to cover the costs and we hereby appeal to those receiving this letter to send us a contribution in any amount which would help defray the costs. You may even wish to earmark the beneficiary institution in eastern Europe.
In addition to free subscriptions of OPREE some theological libraries in Eastern Europe have asked for further assistance. A librarian from Sofia, Bulgaria, wrote that the totalitarian regime left the theological libraries with needs for books space, books, and equipment; with space we could not help, he said, but if we could send theological books, photocopiers, computers, and other equipment of use to libraries they would be most grateful. A librarian from the former German Democratic Republic stated the need for English language theological books and periodicals for the training of their students. A chairman of a philosophy department in Riga, Latvia, expressed the need for donations of philosophical and theological books since they are unable to purchase them for hard currency. And a librarian of a Catholic theological seminary in Poland expressed gratitude for a gift subscription of OPREE.
Thus, if you have computer equipment (used or new), books, or any other library equipment that could be mailed to Eastern Europe please contact Dr. Paul Mojzes, Rosemont College, Rosemont, PA 19010, telephone (215)-527-0200, ext. 350. We shall try to figure out ways to send these to the right address. What none of us alone can do a networking of concerned individuals or institutions may be able to accomplish.
Thank you for considering the appeal.
