Melanie Hulbert, Assistant Professor of Sociology (BA, Western Washington University; MA, Women's Studies Studies, University at Albany, State University of New York; PhD, University at Albany). Melanie specializes in sociology of work and gender issues and family. She also has interest in race/ethnicity themes. Melanie received the Paul Meadow's Teaching Award from the University at Albany and an award of excellance from the WorldatWork Journal for her research on gender roles in the work place. She joined the faculty at GFU in August 2003.

Lisa McMinn, Professor of Sociology (Nursing Diploma, Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, Portland, Ore.; BA, George Fox College; MS, Sociology, Portland State University; PhD, Portland State University). Lisa comes to GFU from Wheaton College. She was drawn to sociology through the writings of Tony Campolo and Robert Bellah. Her interests are social change as it relates to ecology, global capitalism and consumerism, religion, gender, and sexuality. Dr. McMinn is the author of three books. When she’s not teaching, speaking, or writing, she’s likely working with bees, digging in dirt, walking in the woods, or tending her orchard on Fern Creek, where she lives with her husband, Mark. She joined the faculty at GFU in 2006.
Instructors for the 2009 fall term:
- Terry Steele, D.Miss - Terry has taught for GFU for eight years. He is teaching the Cultural Anthropology courses this term and is currently ABD for a PhD in Intercultual Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
- Cara Copeland, M.Ed. - Cara is teaching a Principles of Sociolgy course this term. She is working on an M.A in Sociology at Portland State University. She has also worked at GFU in the capacity of Program Director of Living Learning Communities.
- Jeffrey Tatum, J.D. - Jeff comes to us from Calvin College where he was an Assistant Professor of Sociology. He is also ABD for a PhD in Sociology from University of Virginia and earned a law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law. Jeff is teaching Principles of Sociology this term.
