My experience with Fox goes back to spring term of 2001 when I started as an adjunct instructing Graphic Design. In 2013, I was hired full time to teach in the Department of Art and Design and for cinema and media communications. I started teaching full time in the fall of 2013.
Judson Baptist College, 1980, Associate of Science
Oregon State University, 1982, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Graphic Design
What is something you’d like to do in the future?
I enjoy cartooning and whimsical illustration. I have written several children’s stories and have begun illustrating for them. It is my goal to complete these and move them through the publishing process.
I would like to learn and become proficient in serigraphy. I have always appreciated the bold colors and vibrant designs of various artists’ work and poster designs of the 1960s and 70s.
I like films. I enjoy writing short stories that could be scripted for film. I have several in the works and would embrace the challenge to see them through production.
I have always had a strong interest in automobile design and would enjoy restoring another automobile at some point when time and space become available. My interest in automobiles range from early Fords to 1960s pony cars.
What is something you’re grateful for, appreciate, encouraged by, or excited about?
I am grateful for good health. I have been blessed with a life without, so far, any real physical setbacks. I also am grateful for the good health of my immediate family. Additionally, I am very grateful for my job as a teacher at George Fox University. What a wonderful opportunity this is to share my skills and experiences with students who have like interests!
I am excited for the amazing opportunities that are ahead for students, faculty and staff within the Department of Art and Design at Fox. We have the opportunity to be the very best Christian university in the western United States for art and design. That excites me!
I have been married since 1988 to Susan, my best friend. We have two children, John and Heather.
What kind of art do you do?
As a designer I design a variety of things, including logos, corporate identity, print materials for marketing, posters, cartooning and character design, television and corporate video. I have experience in woodworking, including cabinet making and custom-home building.
