CHANGES FOR INCOMING FRESHMAN

For freshmen entering fall semester 2002 and others using this catalog to determine graduation eligibility, the general education requirements differ from those indicated in this chapter in the following ways:

  1. Students must take a senior capstone course GEED 490 Faith, Liberal Arts, and the World. 3 hours. A course designed to encourage students to integrate their specialized knowledge and general education with Christian faith, in the context of addressing a public issue of current significance. The course explores how various disciplinary approaches to discerning truth may contribute to collaborative social action. Students will participate in groups to research the chosen public issue and formulate an action proposal. Individual students will be asked to formulate their own statement of faith, learning, and profession integration.
  2. Students are no longer required to take RELI 470, 480, and 490.
  3. Four courses are required in humanities, not five. The one-course requirements in fine arts, history, and literature still apply. Total requirement is 11-12 hours.
  4. The additional course in the sciences in no longer required. Still required are two courses from natural science, one from math, and two from social science. Total requirement is 15 hours.
