The Australian Studies Centre

Program Overview

In conjunction with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, George Fox students can participate in the Australia Studies Centre (ASC). Students study at the Wesley Institute for Ministry and the Arts, located in Sydney, Australia. The program is designed primarily for those interested in the study of theology, music, drama or art.

Course Content
The program is comprised of one seminar course designed especially for ASC students, a seminar in Australian history, culture and society, and three or four electives selected from Wesley Institute's list of courses.

Additional Learning Opportunities
Students will regularly participate in a service project in conjunction with Wesley Mission. Opportunities could include working with the homeless, handicapped, underprivileged or orphans. Students will also travel throughout Australia.

Application
The student must fill out two applications: a George Fox off-campus application form (obtained from the registrar's office) and an Australia Studies Centre application (to be completed online at https://bestsemester.com/applications/students). An application fee must accompany your application. (Note: Actual program deadlines will differ.)

Eligibility
To participate in ASC, students must be a full-time junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Credits
Because students remain enrolled at George Fox University while participating at the ASC, academic credit is awarded by George Fox. Students will typically take between 15-16 credit hours. Students will be required to submit a two-page summary of their experience to the director of overseas study upon their return.

Housing
Students may be housed with Australian families situated in neighborhoods around Wesley Institute.

Costs
The student pays George Fox's standard tuition, room and board, and student fees. Participants continue to receive financial aid, including scholarships, since they are officially George Fox students. The program provides travel to and from Los Angeles and room and board. The student will need to cover the cost of textbooks and other educational materials, travel to and from Los Angeles, miscellaneous expenses, and personal travel while in Australia.
