The Semester in France Program

Program Overview
George Fox University students may apply to study in France for one semester through a cooperative agreement with Grace College of Winona Lake, Ind. The semester in France program is designed for students minoring in French or Romance languages. Students study in Dijon, France, and live in local family homes while attending French language and civilization classes with students from 60 countries.
Course content
Students will register for courses based on their Oral Proficiency Interview taken prior to departure and on their placement exam taken on arrival at the Centre International d' �tudes Françaises (CIEF) at the University of Burgundy. Besides French language courses, students can take courses in French culture and civilization (cinema, theater, literature ) or more advanced courses in history, art history, and literature. The CIEF also offers courses in business French.
Opportunities
The CIEF maintains a resource center for all students and offers social and cultural recreational activities. Throughout the semester, guided day excursions are organized in and around Burgundy as well as two- or three- day accompanied excursions to other areas of France. (Additional fees will apply for the excursions)
Application Deadlines
Students must fill out two applications: a George Fox off-campus application form (available from the registrar's office) and a semester in France application (available from the director of global studies).
Eligibility
Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to apply.
Credits
Because students remain enrolled at George Fox University while participating in the program, academic credit is awarded by George Fox. Students will typically take 16 credit hours. Students will be required to submit a two-page summary of their experience to the director of overseas study upon their return.
Preparation:
Students participating in the program receive preparation through a video/correspondence course provided by Grace College (1 credit).
Housing
Students live in French homes in Dijon. Students pledge to use French as the only means of communication during their stay overseas.
Costs
The student pays George Fox's standard tuition, room and board, and student fees and continues to receive financial aid. The program covers travel to and from France from the point of departure from the U.S., tuition, and room and board expenses. The student will cover the cost of textbooks and other educational materials, travel to and from the point of departure from the U.S., miscellaneous expenses, and personal travel while in France.
