The Scholars' Semester in Oxford

Program Overview
In conjunction with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, George Fox students can participate in the Scholars' Semester in Oxford (SSO). Students enrolled in the SSO are granted Visiting Student status and as such are members of Oxford Univeristy. This gives them full access to the Bodleian Library and relevant faculty libraries, university lectures, as well as athletic teams and social organizations. Transcripts will be issued by Wycliffe Hall, one of more than 45 colleges and halls that comprise Oxford University.
Course content
Students select a primary and secondary tutorial course that is typically one-on-one with an Oxford professor. Students will also take a University Integrative Seminar and lecture course and a Centre for Scholarship and Christianity In Oxford (SCIO) lecture course, for a total of 17 credit hours.
Application Deadlines
The student must fill out two applications: a George Fox off-campus application (available from the registrar's office) and an Oxford Honors Program application (to be completed online at https://bestsemester.com/applications/students). An application fee must accompany your application. (Note: Actual program deadlines will differ.)
Eligibility
SSO students must be full-time upperclassmen with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Note that this GPA requirement is higher than for other George Fox programs.
Credits Because students remain enrolled in their home institutions while participating in SSO, 17 hours of academic credit is awarded by George Fox University. However, Wycliffe Hall will have final authority over all admissions, academic programs, and student behavior. Students will be required to submit a two-page summary of their experience to the George Fox director of overseas study upon their return.
Housing Students have the option to live at The Vines, a grand home on the crest of Headington Hill, a 35-minute walk into Oxford city centre or a five-minute walk to the nearest bus stop, or at the Crick Road House, a 10-minute walk from the center of town (or five minutes to Wycliffe Hall). More information about SSO housing.
Costs
The student pays George Fox's standard tuition, room and board, and student fees and continues to receive financial aid. Costs typically cover travel from the point of departure from the U.S. to London, tuition, and room and board expenses. The student will cover the cost of textbooks and other educational materials, travel cost to and from the point of departure in the U.S., miscellaneous expenses, and personal travel while in England.
