Senegal

Semester in Senegal Program

Program Overview
This is a program that emphasizes the strengthening of skills in the French language through immersion in the Francophone culture of Senegal, in West Africa. Senegal was first under the control of the Portuguese and the Dutch and then became a French colony in the 17th century. The program is located at the Suffolk University-Dakar campus and is operated by the Council for International Educational Exchange. Dakar is a city of about 2.5 million and is a city of great beauty and cultural depth.

Course content
Students must have skills in the French language to be able to study at the Intermediate or Advanced level. Other courses are available in French, including Development Economics, History of Islam, and Crisis Management and International Law in Africa. Beginning courses in the local Wollof language may be taken.
