The Semester in Spain Program

Program Overview
George Fox University students may apply to study in Spain for one semester through a cooperative agreement with Trinity Christian College of Palos Heights, Ill. The Semester in Spain Program is designed primarily for students majoring or minoring in Spanish. Students study in Seville, Spain, and live in local homes while attending classes with students from Trinity and other colleges.
Course content
A Preliminary Course Request Form is sent to each student prior to his or her departure for Spain. Students choose their courses based on their previous Spanish language course work, with the approval of their advisor or the foreign language faculty. Besides Spanish language courses students can take courses in Spanish history, art, and culture.
Opportunities
Various activities and outings, such as concerts, theater productions, picnics, trips to the beach, sporting events, etc. will be offered throughout the semester. These activities are optional. Some activities will require only a nominal fee, some will be more expensive.
Application Deadlines
The student must fill out two applications: a George Fox off-campus application (available from the registrar's office) and a Semester in Spain application form (from the Center for Global Studies or the Spanish office).
Eligibility
Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Credits
All Semester In Spain courses are offered for 4 semester hours of credit. Most students take four classes per semester for a total of 16 credit hours of course work. Some advanced students choose to take only three classes for a total of 12 credit hours.
Housing
Students live in Spanish homes in Seville. A student's Spanish family may consist of a couple or a single woman, with or without children. Students will be living with one, two, or sometimes three roommates from the Semester In Spain Program depending on the accommodations available. Students who are participating in our program along with a friend may request to live together in the same home assignment. Those requests are honored as much as possible.
Costs
The student pays George Fox's standard tuition and room and board rates, and continues to receive university financial aid. Costs covered include travel from the point of departure from the U.S. to Spain, tuition, room and board expenses, and books. The student will cover the cost of any additional course fees, miscellaneous expenses, travel to and from the point of departure from the U.S., and personal travel while in Spain.
