The Uganda Studies Program

Program Overview

In conjunction with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, George Fox students can participate in the Uganda Studies Program (USP). Students will study with African students at Uganda Christian University in Kampala.

Course Content
The program is comprised of one experiential course designed especially for USP students, Faith and Practice in the Ugandan Context, two or three flexible core classroom courses, and up to two electives chosen from Uganda Christian University's Honours College. Typically, students attend lectures once a week and then meet with their tutors for further discussion.

Application
The student must fill out two applications: a George Fox off-campus application form (available from the registrar's office) and a Uganda Studies Program application (to be completed online at https://bestsemester.com/applications/students). An application fee must accompany your application.

Eligibility
To participate in USP, students must be full-time juniors or seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Credits
Because students remain enrolled at George Fox University while participating at the ASC, academic credit is awarded by George Fox. Students will typically take 16 credit hours. Students will be required to submit a two-page summary of their experience to the director of overseas study upon their return.

Housing
Students will live at the four small dormitories of the Honours College and share their lives with about 40 of the university's scholarship students. Each dorm room will house two students in clean but modest accommodations, with common bathroom and shower facilities.

Costs
The student pays George Fox's standard tuition, room and board, and student fees and continues to receive financial aid. Costs typically cover travel from the point of departure from the U.S. to Uganda, tuition, and room and board expenses. The student will need to cover the cost of textbooks and other educational materials, miscellaneous expenses, travel to and from the point of departure from the U.S., and personal travel while in Uganda.
