Do you offer an alternative program for nontraditional students, for example, distance learning via Internet or television, weekend classes, or monthly classes offered off site?

The APA national accreditation board does not currently allow offering most courses off campus because of quality monitoring difficulties. Classes are typically held Wednesday through Friday at our Newberg campus; clinical placements occur on Mondays and Tuesdays. Some special-interest seminars are held at our Portland Center or Oregon Health and Science University.

What is your policy regarding transferring credits?

Students may transfer up to 30 semester hours of applicable graduate level courses in psychology and/or up to 12 hours of theology/Bible applicable to George Fox's program. Transfer units must be from an accredited graduate school or theological seminary. Documentation is provided to demonstrate course work is compatible with George Fox University course content.

If I have a master's degree, may I be admitted as a third-year student?

At this time, we do not offer advanced standing. However, you may be eligible for transfer of credit (see above paragraph). This will allow you to reduce your course load and curriculum costs while in the program.

If I do nothave much formal background in psychology, how can I prepare for admission into the PsyD program?

You do not need to have a degree in psychology. Generally, you will need 18 semester hours in undergraduate psychology courses. You may take them at your local accredited college, university, or at George Fox University.
Recommended courses are:
  • Introduction to Psychology
  • Statistics and Research Methods
  • Personality Theory
  • Human Development or Child Development
  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Psychological Tests and Measurement
  • Social Psychology
  • Learning Theory
  • Experimental Psychology Alternatively, doing well on the PGRE may strengthen an application that does not have enough formal class hours
