Reception and overnight stay begin on Friday, Feb. 13
Students who have applied* to George Fox and have filled out applicable scholarship applications by Feb. 1 are eligible to audition or interview with faculty for departmental scholarships. All auditions and interviews take place on Saturday, Feb. 14. Selection is based on performance, and applicants may compete for and be awarded several scholarships.
To be eligible for Scholarship Competition, YOU MUST:
- Apply for admission to George Fox by Feb. 1 (postmarked). You can either apply online or you can download the application as a PDF.
- Register for Scholarship Competition.
- Submit Scholarship Competition application(s). You will have access to applications after registering.
If you haven't visited campus, this is a wonderful opportunity to do so. On Friday, Feb. 13 we offer a Friday @ Fox visit event open exclusively to students participating in Scholarship Competition. To schedule a Friday @ Fox visit please call our Visit Coordinator at 800-765-4369 ext. 2249.
*Students applying for readmission are not eligible to participate in Scholarship Competition.
Art Scholarships
Applicants for graphic or studio art scholarships must intend to major in art and demonstrate Stewardship, the use of talent in service to Christ and community. Scholarships in studio and graphic arts will be awarded based on a combination of:
- Reference from art teacher or professional in the field
- Response to two essay questions
- High School GPA
- Portfolio of artwork (Slides preferred, Digital images accepted).
In order to continue receiving the scholarship, recipients must continue to pursue a major in art and maintain acceptable standards in academics, performance and service.
Behrens Engineering Scholarship
Students intending on majoring in engineering are eligible for the Behrens Engineering Scholarship of $5,000 (one renewable award given per year). This award is not available to transfer students. Students who apply for the Science Scholarship and meet the following qualifications may request to be considered for this scholarship.
- Intend on majoring in Engineering
- Minimum 3.75 H.S. GPA
- SAT score of 1200 (combined Math and Critical Reading) or ACT equivalent
An additional essay is required of applicants who meet these criteria and wish to be considered for this scholarship. They also need to be prepared to address issues of leadership, faith and engineering during their on campus interview. (See Science Scholarship Application for more details).
The recipient must remain in the engineering major and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher.
Forensic Scholarships
Students interested in speech and debate, are encouraged to apply for scholarships in forensics. Selection will be based on:
- Eight minute speech (style should be persuasive or informative)
- One essay question
- Application
Recipients are expected to maintain a 3.0 average GPA, participate on the Forensic Team, and attend Forensic Tournaments (which often involve weekend travel).
Miller Award (Service/Leadership)
The Jim and Lila Miller Award is given each year to incoming freshmen and transfers who have demonstrated exceptional characteristics through co-curricular activities, student government, their church, and local community. You must attend Scholarship Competition to be considered for this award. Application requirements and materials include:
- Group interview (you must interview in person to be considered for this award)
- Minimum 3.0 H.S. GPA
- A current picture
- Listing of activities, leadership positions and awards
- One essay question
In order to continue receiving the scholarship, recipients are expected to participate in leadership development workshops throughout the year and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
Music Scholarships
Students who plan to participate in the performing arts department, are eligible to audition for music scholarships. A variety of performance participation scholarships will also be awarded. Auditions will consist of:
- Three prepared pieces in contrasting style
- Demonstration of sight-reading skills
- Demonstration of technical abilities
- Two recommendation forms
Students receiving a music scholarship are required to be enrolled in a major music ensemble and take applied music lessons each semester.
Science Scholarships
Scholarships are available for students intending on majoring in science (this award is not available to transfer students). Science scholarships include biology, chemistry, math, computer science, information science and engineering (this scholarship does NOT apply to Nursing). Application materials include:
- High school transcript (minimum 3.5 H.S. GPA)
- SAT or ACT scores
- Two letters of recommendation
- Two essay questions
- List of extracurricular activities
In order to continue receiving the scholarship, recipients must major in one of the above mentioned sciences and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Applicants for Science Scholarships who meet additional qualifications may request to be considered for the Behrens Engineering Scholarship of $5,000.
Theatre Scholarships
Students interested in participating in the theatre arts program are encouraged to apply for theatre scholarships. Application process will consist of:
- A personal interview
- Resume is required. Headshot is encouraged for performance applicants.
- Letter of recommendation from drama/theatre instructor.
- For Performance Applicants: Two contrasting 90 second monologues (comic and dramatic, or classical and contemporary) For questions regarding audition materials please e-mail Rhett Luedtke, Assistant Professor of Theatre.
- For Design/Technical Applicants: A portfolio of materials representing your work (photographs, drafting, sketches, renderings, models, etc.) For questions regarding portfolio materials, e-mail Bryan Boyd, Associate Professor of Theatre.
In order to continue receiving the scholarship, recipients must be involved in at least two of the three main stage productions each year and maintain a 3.0GPA.

| 5:00 p.m. | Interviews conclude at 5:00p.m. Please arrange to stay until the end. |
Transportation Information
Need a ride? We can pick you up at the Portland airport, train station, or bus depot. Call 800-765-4369 ext. 2240 with your itinerary at least a week before Scholarship Competition. The event ends at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and the airport is about an hour away, so plan accordingly.

Registration Information
Registration will be open starting December 1, 2008
In order to register for Scholarship Competition and compete for the scholarships offered at this event, you must:
- Apply for admission to George Fox by February 1 (postmarked)
- Submit completed Scholarship Competition application(s) by February 1 (postmarked)
You will have access to the scholarship applications after registering. You may compete for and be awarded several scholarships.
