A Call to Nursing: Thoughts on George Fox Universityâ??s Nursing Program
The opportunity to obtain a nursing degree while studying at a Christ-centered institution inspired juniors Nikki Holbert, Alyssa Pike, and Amy Turner to transfer to George Fox in the spring of 2007 from various community colleges. During the first two years of operation, roughly a third of the students participating in the universityâ??s five-semester nursing program have been transfer students.
Vision
Picture a college experience where students only studied â?? a constant drone of nonstop academics. Something tells me this wouldnâ??t be a place where relationships were built, where memories were made, and where growth was realized. Luckily, George Fox University is a place where academics, community, relationship, and experience are equally valued.
Beauty in Brazil
There are a few things I really love about George Fox University. At the top of the list is the emphasis put upon serving both locally and globally. As a transfer student, I was excited about the opportunities this presented for a couple of reasons. First, it was a great way to live out the passion God placed upon my heart for the world. Second, it gave me a great way to meet other students at George Fox with the same passions I had.
From My Perspective
I transferred to George Fox University my junior year after spending two years at a community college to save money. The thought of being a transfer student made me nervous. I assumed that everyone would have their group that they hung out in and it would be difficult for a new student like me to find a place in the crowd. This, however, was not the case.
