Vision

By: Shane Walker, Associated Student Community Vice-President

Picture a college experience where students only studied - a constant drone of nonstop academics. Something tells me this wouldn't be a place where relationships were built, where memories were made, and where growth was realized. Luckily, George Fox University is a place where academics, community, relationship, and experience are equally valued.

When you arrive at George Fox, you may have many expectations of what this particular journey will hold. An honest testimony of my journey so far at the university can be described in two words: relational community. At no other time in my life have I been surrounded by so many caring and supportive servants of Christ. At George Fox, you will find faculty who care, students who are relational, and a commonality between us all that is found in Christ Jesus. My journey at George Fox has made me realize I am part of a larger picture.

As the student body president and I were preparing for the current year, we had many conversations about what kind of vision we wanted to relay to the undergraduate community. It took careful consideration and prayer before the clarity of this vision was fully apparent. It wasn't until after we had shared our personal goals with one another that a commonality arose. From this unity we realized that, as student leaders and followers of Christ, we are to be public servants who understand we are part of a larger picture. Through this vision, the Associated Student Community of George Fox University gains motivation to be involved and serve with the student body.

The ASC exists to promote spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social student development, to improve the general welfare of each student, to provide quality services and activities for the student body, to encourage and facilitate communication between students, faculty, and administration, and to represent the student body's concerns. This is played out in the many ways you can get involved while being a student at George Fox. There's something for everyone. Here are some examples of the more common areas of student involvement.

Leadership Opportunities:

Through involvement within the George Fox community, experiences are shared, memories are made, and growth is realized. From the day I started school here a little over two years ago, I have been challenged to step outside the box, try new things, and think for myself. I'm not always comfortable at George Fox, but I wouldn't want to be any other place.
