A Note About eBruin
By Robby Larson, Director of Alumni Relations

A lot has happened around George Fox since I wrote my article for the last issue of eBruin back in May.  Sophomore Joel Krebs won the National Championship in the javelin.  President Brandt retired after nine years at George Fox.  Dr. Robin Baker assumed the presidency on July 1.  And, we welcomed our first Act Six class on our way to setting a new enrollment record (read about that in the “News” section of eBruin).

In Alumni Relations, we felt that this three month hiatus between eBruin issues was the perfect opportunity to make some changes in format and content of this publication.  Our hope is that the changes we have made to eBruin will allow you to access the information you care most about in a streamlined manner. Highlighting Our History

Less than a year after the George Fox University opened its doors with a total of fifteen students on September 9, 1891, the decision was made to relocate the campus.  The original site at the corner of Third and College Streets, where Newberg Friends Church currently stands, was inadequate for both the growing college and its predecessor, Pacific Academy, a preparatory school.  The school paid $1,359 to have the two existing campus buildings, Kanyon Hall (now known as Minthorn) and the original Hoover Hall (razed in 1954), moved to the current campus over the summer break.

Today, 121 years after it was built, Minthorn Hall is still plays an important role at the University, housing the departments of writing, literature, languages, and communication arts.  The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Have you ever wondered why the college isn’t on College St?
