It has been an honor and an exciting privilege to serve as a representative for the ’60s decade on the George Fox Alumni Board. I am a member of the class of 1965, a class that has enjoyed a special closeness, as we gather every summer for reunions.
As I come to the end of my last term, I look back to many great memories. It was a thrill to introduce Hal and Nancy Thomas for an award at homecoming several years ago, select recipients for scholarships and to speak on behalf of the alumni board at the Redmond graduation more recently. It is also with regret that I leave a group of great people who are committed to regular meetings to discuss and plan activities like homecoming and graduations. They also decide who will get awards and scholarships and take this responsibility seriously, as there are always more people deserving than who can receive.
The relationship between board members goes beyond our school commitment. We become “family” to each other. If someone has a need or concern, everyone is faithful to do what they can to meet that need. I will really miss this special group of people.
That being said, if anyone wants to serve your fellow alumni, I can think of no better place to serve. There is a commitment to meetings four or five times a year and availability to special events like homecoming, graduations, and other alumni activities, but it is worth the time and travel involved, many times over. Thank you for letting me be your representative.
