Trustees appoint 12th President of George Fox University
George Fox University Provost Robin E. Baker, who has overseen a dramatic expansion of academic programs at the university since 1999, will be the institution's next president, effective July 1. Baker, 49, was selected this weekend by the George Fox Board of Trustees, which met on the Newberg campus for its annual spring meetings. He will begin his presidential duties following the retirement of President David Brandt. Read more.

Spring forward. To me those words are both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because I know that as a result of shifting the little hand on my clocks, I will be able to enjoy an extra hour of daylight for the next eight months. That is something that a person who loves the outdoors, like me, absolutely delights in. At the same time, this short two word phrase also forces me to lose an hour of sleep; something else that I value greatly. More...

Senior Wins Scriptwriting Competition
George Fox University senior Andrew Riese, from The Dalles, Ore., received the “Best of Festival” award for his feature-length screenplay “Nineteen Ninety-Six” at the Broadcast Education Association's annual competition. Riese, a cinema and media communications major, will accept his award at the 52nd annual BEA convention April 18-21 in Las Vegas. Read more.

Spring Serve Trips
During spring break, March 23-31, student teams will be serving in Los Angeles, Calif., (two teams), Lapwai, Idaho, Yakima, Wash., and Salt Lake City. These trips can be life changing and challenging for our students. Please pray for safety and individual growth as they travel. Detailed list of Spring Serve trip descriptions.

Nominate Someone for an Honored Alumni Award
Each year, the Alumni Board selects five deserving recipients for our Honored Alumni Awards, which are then presented during homecoming. The process of selecting these worthy recipients begins with nominations from our alumni. We encourage you to complete the online nomination form for any alumnus that you feel is deserving of one of the awards. Nominations for the 2008 Honored Alumni Awards must be submitted by June 1, 2007. You can see a listing of past recipients and the specific criteria for the awards here.

Alumni Board Seeks Applicants
The Alumni Board will have open seats on July 1 for both a school of professional studies and a PsyD representative. Service on the alumni board is a valuable way to give back to and stay connected with the George Fox community. If you are interested in applying for one of these positions, please fill out the alumni board application form online by April 1.

Spring Sports Schedules Available
The spring sports schedules for men's and women's tennis, softball, baseball, men's and women's track and field, and women's golf are available online at gfubruins.com. Pocket-sized schedule cards you can take wherever you go are also available. To request the schedule cards, e-mail vtimmons@georgefox.edu and provide your mailing address. We will send it to your home.

First Year Alumni Career and Graduate School Fair
On April 4, the annual First Avenue Career and Graduate School Fair will take place at the University of Portland. All first-year George Fox alumni, as well as current students, are invited to attend. This event is sponsored by the Oregon Liberal Arts Placement Consortium, of which George Fox is a member.

More than 100 organizations will be available for first-year alumni and students to visit with. This is a great chance to expand your network and see what opportunities are available in the market today. This event is the largest of its kind for private institutions in the Portland area.

First-year alumni can register online at olapcfirstavenue.org or come to Career Services in Stevens 325.

Act Six Benefit Event
On Saturday, April 14, George Fox will host “An Evening with Julianne Johnson and Friends” to benefit the Act Six program, which annually provides full scholarships to a multicultural group of 10 Portland high school students beginning in the fall of 2007. Johnson and musical guests will perform a mix of jazz, R&B, Motown, and gospel selections. Tickets cost $8 in advance, $10 at the door, and $5 for students and seniors. 50-Year Reunion for ‘Classic Bruins'
Members of the class of 1957 will celebrate their 50-year reunion during graduation weekend April 27-28. The celebration will culminate with class members leading the graduation processional during spring commencement. For more information, click here.

Presidential Gala Event for President David and Melva Brandt
Saturday, June 9, is an evening to celebrate President David and Melva Brandt, who are retiring from four decades in Christian higher education, including nine years at George Fox University. This event will be held at the Governor Hotel in Portland, Ore. See more Presidential Farewell Events here.

San Diego Padres Game
The Office of University Relations invites alumni in the San Diego area to Petco Park on Friday, July 6 to watch the San Diego Padres take on the Atlanta Braves. Invitations will be sent out in May. George Fox University Golf Tournament
The university will host its fourth annual golf tournament at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha on Tuesday, July 10. George Fox is seeking sponsors for the tournament to support student scholarships. Last year, the tourney raised more than $40,000. George Fox University at Safeco Field for Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics
Join us on Saturday, July 28, in Seattle for this fantastic George Fox University event including lunch and the Mariners vs. Athletics game. The cost is only $40 for an 11:30 a.m. lunch at Look-Out Landing, Safeco Field, followed by the game at 1:05 p.m. Online registration will be available soon. Motorcycle Rally
Please join us on Saturday, Aug. 11, for the second annual motorcycle rally departing from the Newberg campus. If you are a street motorcycle rider, we want to hear from you so we can send you an invitation. Also, let us know if you are interested in one of the longer rides (200–250 miles) – one to Detroit Lake and one to the Columbia Gorge – or the short ride (100–125 miles) through Yamhill County wine country.
