1/14 - LEWIS & CLARK 105, GEORGE FOX 69: Double-Barreled Attack Shoots Pioneers Past Bruins
PORTLAND, Ore. - Center Kristofer Speier and guard Danny Winchester sizzled from outside and inside, combining for 56 points to lead the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers to a 105-69 win over the George Fox University Bruins in a Northwest Conference men's basketball contest Tuesday night (Jan. 14) here at the Pamplin Sports Center.
In the first half alone, Winchester hit five three-pointers for 15 points and Speier tallied 16, including a three of his own, as the Pioneers led from start to finish. Mark Gayman kept the Bruins in the game with nine in the first half, but a 15-5 spurt late in the half enabled the Pioneers to expand a slim 30-26 lead to 45-31 at the break.
Speier hit a pair of jumpers and Nate Kabanuck hit a three to open the second half as the Pioneers stretched their lead to 21 at 52-31. The Bruins cut the lead to 13 at 63-50 with 14:12 left in the game on a three-point play by Bryan Wadlow, but the Pioneers outscored the Bruins 42-19 the rest of the way to cruise to their 8th straight win over the Bruins.
Speier finished with points 34 points, Winchester totaled 22, and Colin Oriard added 15. Speier had a gamephigh 7 rebounds as the Pioneers won the battle of the boards 34-28. Winchester had 6 assists.
Gayman led the Bruins with 14 points, Wadlow had 13, and Brett Yeager and Aaron Schmick scored 10 each. Wadlow was the Bruins' top rebounder with 5, and Yeager had 3 assists. The Bruins were also victimized with 22 turnovers.
The Bruins fell to 5-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference with their 24th straight NWC setback. The Pioneers climbed over .500 at 8-7 overall and evened their league record at 3-3.
George Fox returns home to host the University of Puget Sound Friday (Jan. 17) at 8:00 p.m., while Lewis & Clark does not play again until Jan. 24, hosting Whitman College at 8:00 p.m.
