1/21 - LINFIELD 123, GEORGE FOX 91: Linfield Prevails in Typical High-Scoring Affair with Bruins
McMINNVILLE, Ore. - In the previous eight games between the George Fox University Bruins and the Linfield College Wildcats, at least one of the two teams scored in triple digits. Tuesday night (Jan. 21) was no different as the Wildcats raced past the Bruins 123-91 in a Northwest Conference men's basketball contest here at Ted Wilson Gym.
George Fox took an early 6-3 lead on baskets by Bryan Wadlow and Mark Gayman and a pair of free throws by Wadlow, but Linfield regained the lead on short jumpers in the lane by Matt Kitchen and Jeff Dunn, and the Wildcats never trailed again. It was 63-53 at the half. Linfield hit the 100 mark with 7:27 to play on a baseline jumper by Dunn. The final score was the largest margin of the game.
Zach Hollin came off the bench to lead the Bruins with a career-high 21, Aaron Schmick scored 16, Wadlow added 15, and Gayman had 10. Gayman had 5 rebounds, and Brett Yeager passed out 5 assists.
The Wildcats placed seven players in double figures, led by Cornell Williams with 16. He was followed by Matt Larson with 15, Nick Fusare with 14, Travis Jones with 12, and Spencer Crossland, Kitchen, and T.J. Middlesworth with 11 each. The Wildcats controlled the boards 51-34, led by Crossland with 7, and shot .563 for the game (49-87). Larson had 9 assists.
The Bruins are now 6-9 overall and 1-6 in the conference, while their Yamhill County rivals improved to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in the league.
George Fox visits Willamette University and Linfield hosts Pacific University Friday (Jan. 24), both at 8:00 p.m. following the women's games at 6:00 p.m.
