2/14 - PUGET SOUND 90, GEORGE FOX 72: Loggers Put Bruins Away Early on Way to Comfortable Win

TACOMA, Wash. - Shooting 62% in the first half and building a 30-point lead at halftime, it was all Loggers Friday night (Feb. 14) as the University of Puget Sound rolled past the visiting Bruins of George Fox University 90-72 in Northwest Conference men's basketball here at Memorial Fieldhouse.

The Loggers jumped out to an early lead and raised the margin to 58-28 at the half. Although the Bruins out-scored the Loggers 44-32 in the second half, they never seriously threatened the rest of the way. Puget Sound ended the evening hitting 54% (36-66) from the floor but just 56% (9-12) from the line. The Bruins shot 37% (25-68) from the floor on the night and 15-22 (68%) from the free throw line. The Loggers dominated the boards 46-36.

The Bruins had a pair of players in double figures as Kenny Macy hit for 13 points and Zach Hollin for 10. Bryan Wadlow and Dan Gugliotta were the top Bruin rebounders with 5 each, while Trevor Person had 4 assists.

Puget Sound poured in 9 three-pointers and finished with six players in double figures, led by Zach McVey with 22 points. AJ Williams and Matt Glynn each added 15 points, Chase Curtiss and Aubrey Shelton 11, and Mario Mendoza 10. Shelton had 10 rebounds for a double-double performance. Curtiss added 7 assists.

The Bruins dropped to 7-15 overall and 1-12 in the league, while the Loggers, ending a four-game losing streak, improved to 10-12 overall and 5-8 in the conference.

The Bruins now move across town to take on the only team against whom they have a conference win this season, the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes, Saturday (Feb. 15) at 8:00 p.m.
