BRUIN BITS:
* Aaron Schmick Honorable Mention for NWC Player of the Week:
Aaron Schmick (Fr., W, Hillsboro, Ore.) kept the George Fox Bruins in two close games last week, earning Honorable Mention for Northwest Conference "Player of the Week" for Feb. 17-23. Ina 90-82 loss to Linfield, he scored 19 points, all in the 2nd half, bringing the Bruins back from a 21-point deficit to a 72-72 tie before losing. He hit 7-12 from the field (2-5 on 3's) and 3-4 from the line, with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. In a 59-52 loss to Willamette, he scored 11 points, hitting 4-10 from the field (1-5 on 3's) and 2-2 from the line, with 3 rebounds and 2 assists. For the week, he scored 30 points (15.0), hitting 11-22 (.500) from the field (3-9 on 3's) and 5-6 (.833) from the line, with 8 rebounds (4.0), 4 assists and 2 steals.
NWC "Player of the Week" honors went to Chase Williams of Whitworth, who had 37 points, 16 rebounds, and 9 assists as the Pirates went 2-0 and clinched the conference title.
* Macy, Hollin Honored at Last Home Game as Bruin Seniors:
Kenny Macy (Sr., W, Culver, Ore.) and Zach Hollin (Jr., P, Salem, Ore.) were honored in pre-game ceremonies before the last George Fox home game against Willamette on Feb. 21 as the Bruins' men's basketball seniors. Hollin, an academic senior, has another year of eligibility but is planning to graduate.
Macy, who along with older brother James and younger brother John are believed to be the only NCAA Division III brothers to play together in the same game as they did twice last year, saved his very best for the last two weeks of his four-year career. Always a constant long-distance threat off the bench, he scored 13 and 14 points in back-to-back games at Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran to earn Honorable Mention for NWC Player of the week two weeks ago, then scored a career-high 18 in his final game against Willamette on Friday. He had 8 games of double-digit scoring this year. He scored 316 points in his career.
Hollin, who battled back from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for all of last season, had a fine senior year, including a great week at Linfield and Willamette, scoring a career-high 21 in the first game and 14 in the second to gain Honorable Mention for NWC "Player of the Week" for Jan. 20-26. He had two other double-figure games this season with 15 at Multnomah Bible and 10 at Puget Sound. He scored 229 points in his career and his .844 career free throw pct. would rank as the 4th-best all-time if he had enough attempts to qualify for the career charts.
