NORTHWEST CONFERENCE:
George Fox (0-1) continues non-conference play this week in the Surf's Up Invitational at Kalani High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Bruins' first trip to the islands under Mark Sundquist. The Bruins were picked to finish 6th in this year's NWC race, which does not begin for the Bruins until Jan. 7 when they visit Whitman. Defending conference champion Puget Sound is a heavy favorite to repeat as NWC champion, according to thepre-season coaches' poll. For the latest NWC standings, go to www.nwcsports.com.
COACH MARK SUNDQUIST (Seattle Pacific '89) is 27-73 (.270) to date in his 5th season as a college head coach, all at George Fox. He coached the boys' programs at Woodburn (Ore.) * Gayman Honorable Mention for NWC "Player of the Week"
Mark Gayman led the Bruins in scoring in their season-opening 63-59 loss to Northwest (Wash.) on Nov. 19, earning Honorable Mention for Northwest Conference "Player of the Week" for Nov. 15-21. He had 17 points, hitting 6-11 (.545) from the field (1-3 on 3's) and 4-6 (.667) from the line, with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. He boosted his career points total to 1,024, moving from 30th to 28th on the all-time GFU scoring list. Gayman received "Player of the Week" honors once last year while earned First Team All-Conference status.

--- Mark Gayman, who entered this season with 1,007 career points, had 17 points in the Bruins' opener on Nov. 19 vs. Northwest, boosting his total to 1,024. One of 31 players to have reached the 1,000-point mark as a Bruin, he moved from 30th to 28th on the all-time GFU scoring list, passing Kurt Ronnow (1,013, 1988-92) and Curtis Kimbrough (1,023, 1983-87). * The Wirta Streaks:
Mike "Biggs" Wirta, George Fox's statistical guru, raised his string of consecutive Bruin men's basketball games attended, home and away, to 539 with Saturday's home opener vs. Northwest, last missing one on Nov. 25, 1985, at Puget Sound. He raised his streak of men's basketball home games worked to 406, last missing a home game on Dec. 15, 1972, vs. Willamette, when he was in advanced training with the Army at Ft. Jackson in Columbia, S.C. Now in his 34th season of keeping Bruin statistics, Biggs has seen 952 George Fox men's basketball games in his lifetime.
