COACH MARK SUNDQUIST
Mark Sundquist (Seattle Pacific '89), the 2005-06 Northwest Conference Coach of the Year, is 55-84 (.396) to date in his 6th season as a college head coach, all at George Fox. He picked up his 50th win on Dec. 6 when the Bruins rallied from 15 down to defeat Corban College 87-82. He coached the boys' programs at Woodburn (Ore.) High for two years and at Newberg (Ore.) * Schmick HM for NWC "Player of the Week" for Jan. 2-8
Senior wing Aaron Schmick led the Bruins in scoring in all three games last week, receiving honorable mention for Northwest Conference "Player of the Week" for Jan. 9-15. In an 81-71 loss at Linfield, he scored 25 points on 4-10 from the floor (1-5 on threes) and 16-16 from the line, with 2 assists. He set a new GFU record for free throw pct. in a game (1.000) and tied the record for free throws made (16). In a 76-69 loss at Lewis & Clark, he had 17 points on 6-9 from the field (2-4 on threes) and 3-3 from the line, with 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. In an 88-67 win over Walla Walla, he scored 22 points on 9-15 from the field (4-8 on threes), with 4 rebounds, an assist, and 2 steals. For the week, he scored 64 points (21.3) on 19-34 (.559) from the field, including 7-17 (.412) on threes, and 19-19 (1.000) from the line, with 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. A First Team All-Conference performer last year, it was the second consecutive week for him to receive honorable mention.

* Bruins Just 2 Wins Away from Historic 1,000th in 102 Seasons
With a 10-5 record this year, the George Fox Bruins now have an all-time record of 998-1,019-1 (.495) in their 102nd season of competition. A sweep this week would give the Bruins the 1,000th win in team history Saturday night at Willamette.

* Satern Ties Single-Game High in Nation with 15 Assists
When Brent Satern handed out 15 assists in the Bruins' 88-67 win over Walla Walla College on Feb. 14 in Newberg, he went where few have gone before. His assist total equaled the single-game national season high for 2005-06 in the NCAA Division III, also posted by Steve Thomas of Rowan University against Rutgers University-Camden on Nov. 30. The 15 assists also tied him for the sixth-best number in Bruin history, achieved twice by GFU Hall of Famer Brian Martin and once by Grant Hartenstein. Martin is the only Bruin ever to top 15, which he did five times, with a record high of 20 vs. Warner Pacific on Jan. 19, 1991.

* Career Lists: Schmick Passes Two for 14th in All-Time Points
Aaron Schmick scored 39 points in the Bruins' last two games over the weekend, giving him 1,279 for his career and moving him past Jeff Hoffman (1,264, 1990-92) and Travis Melvin (1,268, 1998-2002) into 14th all-time. Ahead are Gordy Loewen (1,300, 1968-72), Dave Adrian (1,307, 1975-78, 79-80), and Jared Gallop (1,323, 1994-96, 97-98) ... He entered the season with the 11th-best career free throw pct. After 15 games this season, Mike "Biggs" Wirta, George Fox's statistical guru, has stretched his string of keeping statistics at George Fox men's basketball contests, home and road, to 578 in a row, and to 422 in a row at home. The last home game he missed was in 1972. He has now seen 990 men's games altogether (49.1% of all 2,018 GFU games ever played) and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, should observe his 1,000th game on the last day of the regular season, vs. Willamette at home on Feb. 18 ...
