COACH MARK SUNDQUIST
Mark Sundquist (Seattle Pacific '89), the 2005-06 Northwest Conference Coach of the Year, is 57-86 (.399) to date in his 6th season as a college head coach, all at George Fox. He picked up his 50th win on Dec. 6 when the Bruins rallied from 15 down to defeat Corban College 87-82. He coached the boys' programs at Woodburn (Ore.) High for two years and at Newberg (Ore.) * Hall of Fame, Homecoming Court at Halftime of Weekend Games
Feb. 3-4 is "Homecoming Weekend" at George Fox, and two special features are planned for halftime of the men's basketball games each evening.
--- Sports Hall of Fame --- The 11th Annual GFU Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies take place Friday in the Klages Dining Hall on campus, beginning with a reception at 4:00 p.m. and a banquet at 4:30 p.m. The Class of 2006 will then be introduced at halftime of the men's game vs. Puget Sound, which starts at 8 p.m. Members of this year's class are baseball/men's soccer player Mike Nadeau, softball player Becky Stewart Richmond, track/woemn's basketball player Liz Stephens Thompson, track/cross country coach Wes Cook, the 1990 men's cross country team , and Bernard McGrath for meritorious service.
--- Homecoming Court --- The presentation of the 2006 Homecoming Queen and Court will take place at halftime of Saturday's men's game vs. Pacific, which begins at 8 p.m.
* Schmick HM for NWC "Player of the Week" for Jan. 23-29
Senior wing Aaron Schmick led the Bruins in scoring in both games of a 1-1 week, receiving honorable mention for Northwest Conference "Player of the Week" for Jan. 23-29. In a 79=69 los at Whitworth, he scored 21 points on 7-12 from the floor (2-7 on threes) and 5-5 from the line, with 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal. In an 87-79 win at Whitman, he had 21 points on 4-8 from the field (3-3 on threes) and 10-10 from the line, with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a blocked shot and a steal. For the week, he scored 42 points (21.0 ppg) on 11-20 (.550) from the field, including 5-10 (.500) on threes, and 15-15 (1.000) from the line, with 8 rebounds (4.0 rpg), 6 assists (3.0 apg), 2 steals, and a blocked shot. He stretched his streak of consecutive free throws made to 38. A First Team All-Conference performer last year, it was the fourth consecutive week for him to receive honorable mention.

* Bruins Notch 1,000 Win in History by Defeating Whitman
An 87-79 win at Whitman on Jan. 28 gave the George Fox Bruins their 1,000th win in 102 seasons of men's basketball. The Bruins' all-time record now is 1,000-1,021-1 (.495) â?¦ The first season of competition for the Bruins was in 1901-02, when the team went 3-4-1. The 1903-04 and 1918-19 seasons were cancelled, first due to smallpox and then by influenza â?¦Their first winning season was 1904-05 (3-2), their first 10-win season was 1915-16 (11-2), and their first 20-win season was 1976-77 (20-9) â?¦The Bruins have had 46 winning seasons and four .500 seasons â?¦ The most consecutive winning seasons was 8 (1970-71 thru 1977-78) â?¦ The Bruins have made 22 post-season appearances, all in the NAIA, including 7 straight years from 1971-78 â?¦ GFU participated in three NAIA national tournaments (1973, 1990, 1992), going 2-1 and reaching the final eight in '92 â?¦ The highest ranking ever for a George Fox team was 2nd in the pre-season poll of 1991-92, and their highest final ranking was 7th that same year â?¦
* Schmick Stretches Free-Throw Streak to Second-Best Ever at 38
With 38 consecutive free throws made, Aaron Schmick has now posted the second-longest streak in George Fox men's basketball history. The only longer stretch is 56 in a row by Gary Chenault during the 1978-79 season. After missing his last free throw attempt at Pacific on Jan. 7, Schmick's streak began with a 16-16 game at Linfield on Jan. 10, the third-best game in Division III this year. Since then, he has gone 3-3 at Lewis & Clark, 0-0 vs. Walla Walla, 2-2 vs. Pacific Lutheran, 2-2 at Willamette, 5-5 at Whitworth, and 10-10 at Whitman.

He has now seen 994 men's games altogether (49.2% of all 2,022 GFU games ever played) and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, should observe his 1,000th game on the last day of the regular season, vs. Willamette at home on Feb. 18 ...
