BRUIN BITS:

* Szalay HM for NWC "Player of the Week" for Nov. 28-Dec. 4
Senior post Scott Szalay posted a pair of double-doubles as the Bruins went 3-0, receiving honorable mention for Northwest Conference "Player of the Week" for Nov. 28-Dec. 4. In a 78-63 win over Northwest Christian on Nov. 29, he scored 10 points on 4-6 field goals and 2-2 free throws, with 13 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. In a 77-69 comeback overtime win over Whitworth on Dec. 2, he scored 17 points on 8-12 field goals and 1-3 free throws, with 19 rebounds, 4 blocks, 1 assist, and 1 steal. He already had his double-double by the end of the first half (11/11), and his tip-in at the buzzer in regulation gave the Bruins their first tie after rallying from a 21-point deficit and sent the game into overtime. Foul trouble plagued him on Dec. 3 in an 81-68 win over Whitman, limiting him to 17 minutes, but he had 5 points and 5 rebounds in that time, with 1 assist and 1 block. For the week, he scored 32 points (10.7 ppg) on 14-24 (.583) from the field and and 4-7 (.571) from the line, with 37 reobunds (12.3 rpg), 7 blocks, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

* Can't Stop the Bench Either: Sextet of Bruins in Double Figures
It is rare enough to have all five starters averaging double figures in points per game, but the George Fox Bruins have gone that one better. With post Chris Parker coming off the bench to average twin digits, the Bruins have six players scoring at a rate of 10 points or better. Providing the multiple options for the Bruins are starters Phil Heu-Weller (18.3), Aaron Schmick (14.0), and Ben Melvin (11.0) at wings, post Scott Szalay (11.3), and point guard Brent Satern (10.3), plus Parker (15.0) â?¦
