COACH MARK SUNDQUIST
Mark Sundquist (Seattle Pacific '89), the 2005-06 Northwest Conference Coach of the Year, is 51-80 (.389) to date in his 6th season as a college head coach, all at George Fox. He picked up his 50th win on Dec. 6 when the Bruins rallied from 15 down to defeat Corban College 87-82. He coached the boys' programs at Woodburn (Ore.) High for two years and at Newberg (Ore.) * Melvin HM for NWC "Player of the Week" for Nov. 28-Dec. 4
Senior wing Ben Melvin had a career high in one game and a perfect shooting night in another as the Bruins went 2-0, receiving honorable mention for Northwest Conference "Player of the Week" for Dec. 5-11. In an 87-82 comeback win over Corban, he scored an all-time high of 24 points on 8-16 field goals, including 3-6 on threes, and 5-5 free throws, with 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. In a 79-69 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, he had 12 points, hitting 4-4 field goals (2-2 on threes) and 2-2 free throws, with 1 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. For the week, he scored 36 points (18.0 ppg) on 12-20 (.600) from the field, including 5-8 (.625) on threes, and 7-7 (1.000) from the line, with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

With the Bruins' first seven games of the season, Mike "Biggs" Wirta, George Fox's statistical guru, has stretched his string of keeping statistics at George Fox men's basketball contests, home and road, to 570 in a row, and to 421 in a row at home. The last home game he missed was in 1972. He has now seen 982 men's games altogether (48.9% of all 2,010 GFU games ever played) and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, should observe his 1,000th game on the last day of the regular season, vs. Willamette at home on Feb. 18 ...
