COACH MARK SUNDQUIST
Mark Sundquist (Seattle Pacific '89) is 63-88 (.417) to date in his 7th season as a college head coach, all at George Fox. He was the NWC Coach of the Year in 2004-05 for leading the Bruins to an 18-7 record and 2nd place in the conference. He coached the boys' programs at Woodburn (Ore.) * Parker Named BAA, NWC Player of the Week for Nov. 13-19
Senior post Chris Parker has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Men's Athlete of the Week and the Northwest Conference Men's Player of the Week for Nov. 13-19 as he led the Bruins to a 2-0 start to the season. In the opener on Friday, a 74-61 win over Corban, he scored a career-high 27 points on 9-11 from both the field and the line, with 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist. In an 85-65 win over Holy Names on Saturday, he posted his first career double-double with 18 points on 6-9 from the field and 6-8 from the line and 10 rebounds. For the week, he scored 45 points (22.5 ppg) on 15-20 (.750) from the field and 15-19 (.789) from the line, grabbed 16 rebounds (8.0 rpg), and had 3 steals and an assist. He is 2nd in the NWC in scoring and 4th in rebounding and field goal pct. in the early going.

* Knocking Off the Ranked Teams: Holy Names the Latest
Holy Names out of Oakland, Calif., came to Newberg on Saturday with a No. 9 ranking in the NAIA Division II pre-season national poll, but that meant little to the Bruins as they shot .625 (25-40) from the field and plucked the Hawks 85-65. The Bruins hit a scorching .737 (14-19) from the field in the second half. The last time George Fox defeated a nationally-ranked team was on Jan. 21, 2005, when they upset Puget Sound, ranked 5th in the NCAA Division III poll, 68-66 in Newberg.

* The Wirta Watch: "Biggs" Adds to Incredible Streaks
Mike "Biggs" Wirta, George Fox's statistical guru who saw his 1,000th Bruin men's basketball game on the final day of last season vs. Willamette on Feb. 18, continues to add to his remarkable streaks of attendence. With the Bruins' two games at home Nov. 17-18 to open the season, he has now seen 1,002 GFU men's games (49.4% of all 2,030 games in the team's 103 seasons of competition). He has seen 590 straight games, home and road, and has worked 430 in a row at home, not missing a home game since 1972 when he was in military service. A member of the GFU Sports Hall of Fame Class of 1998, he also serves on the Hall of Fame Committee as its resident historian, calls statistics for the women's games, and keeps the Bruins' baseball scorebook. He was the GFU Volunteer of the Year in 1988, and inducted into the NAIA District 2 Hall of Fame in 1994.
