COACH MARK SUNDQUIST

Mark Sundquist (Seattle Pacific '89) is 66-90 (.423) to date in his 7th season as a college head coach, all at George Fox. He was the NWC Coach of the Year in 2004-05 for leading the Bruins to an 18-7 record and 2nd place in the conference. He coached the boys' programs at Woodburn (Ore.) * Satern BAA Athlete of the Week, HM for NWC Player Honors

Junior point guard Brent Satern has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Men's Athlete of the Week and received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Men's Player of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 3 for his efforts in the Bruins' 1-1 week. In a 91-85 win over Linfield on Tuesday, he had a career-high 25 points on 9-16 from the field and 7-9 from the line, with 8 assists and 3 rebounds. In a 92-79 setback at 22nd-ranked Puget Sound on Saturday, he had 9 points on a perfect shooting night, going 3-3 from the field and 3-3 from the line, with 2 assists, a steal and a blocked shot. For the week, he scored 34 points (17.0 ppg) on 12-19 (.632) from the field and 10-12 (.833) from the line, with 10 assists, 3 rebounds, a steal and a block. He is 3rd in the NWC in assists (6.00), 7th in steals (1.86), 13th in assist/turnover ratio (0.98:1), and 16th in scoring (14.0).

* The Wirta Watch: "Biggs" Closing in on 600 Straight Games

Mike "Biggs" Wirta, George Fox's statistical guru who saw his 1,000th Bruin men's basketball game on the final day of last season vs. Willamette on Feb. 18, continues to add to his remarkable streaks of attendence. With the Bruins' two games this past week at Puget Sound and Northwest, he has now seen 1,007 GFU men's games (49.5% of all 2,035 games in the team's 103 seasons of competition). He has seen 595 straight games, home and road, and has worked 431 in a row at home, not missing a home game since 1972 when he was in military service. A member of the GFU Sports Hall of Fame Class of 1998, he also serves on the Hall of Fame Committee as its resident historian, calls statistics for the women's games, and keeps the Bruins' baseball scorebook. He was the GFU Volunteer of the Year in 1988, and inducted into the NAIA District 2 Hall of Fame in 1994.
