* The Wirta Watch: "Biggs" Closing in on 600 Straight Games

Mike "Biggs" Wirta, George Fox's statistical guru who saw his 1,000th Bruin men's basketball game on the final day of last season vs. Willamette on Feb. 18, continues to add to his remarkable streaks of attendence. With the Bruins' two games this past weekend in the Hillyer's Mid-City Ford Classic in Salem, Ore., he has now seen 1,009 GFU men's games (49.5% of all 2,037 games in the team's 103 seasons of competition). He has seen 597 straight games, home and road, and has worked 431 in a row at home, not missing a home game since 1972 when he was in military service. A member of the GFU Sports Hall of Fame Class of 1998, he also serves on the Hall of Fame Committee as its resident historian, calls statistics for the women's games, and keeps the Bruins' baseball scorebook. He was the GFU Volunteer of the Year in 1988, and inducted into the NAIA District 2 Hall of Fame in 1994.
