COACH MARK SUNDQUIST
Mark Sundquist (Seattle Pacific '89) is 76-103 (.425) in his eighth season as a college head coach, all at George Fox. In the past three-plus years, he has guided the Bruins to a 50-32 record (.610). He was the NWC Coach of the Year in 2004-05 for leading the Bruins to an 18-7 record and 2nd place in the conference. He coached the boys' programs at Woodburn (Ore.) * Atwater BAA Athlete of the Week, HM for NWC Honors
Sophomore wing Evan Atwater has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Men's Athlete of the Week and also received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Men's Player of the Week for Dec. 3-9 after leading the Bruins to wins in their first two home games. In an 84-65 win over Corban on Dec. 4, he scored 16 points on 6-13 from the field (4-8 on threes), with 6 rebounds, an assist and a steal. In a 65-52 win over Northwest on Dec. 8, he had 22 points, 14 in the second half, on 8-12 from the field (6-8 on threes), with 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal. He keyed a 19-0 second-half run that secured the game for the Bruins against Northwest by hitting three-pointers to start and end the streak. For the week, he scored 38 points (19.0) on 14-25 (.560) from the field, including 10-16 (.625) on threes, with 9 rebounds (4.5), 2 assists and 2 steals. He has been the Bruins' top scorer in every game so far this season. Atwater currently leads the NWC in 3-point field goals (4.60) and is 2nd in 3-pt field goal pct. (.575), 4th in scoring (18.4), and 13th in field goal pct. (.500).

* Bruins Reel Off 19 Unanswered Points vs. Northwest
In one of the hottest streaks in team history, the Bruins reeled of 19 unanswered points to turn a close game into a rout in a 65-52 win over the Northwest Eagles at home on Dec. 8. The Bruins were down 42-41 when Evan Atwater connected on a three-pointer to start the streak with 13:36 to play in the game, and he capped it with another three at the 3:54 mark, giving the Bruins an insurmountable 60-42 lead. In a balanced team effort, six different Bruins contributed points to the outburst, including 6 by Atwater, 5 by Mark Metzler, 3 by Bryan O'Connell, 2 each by Matt Noble and Brent Satern, and 1 by Joe Ahn. During that 10-minute span, the defense held the Eagles to 0-10 shooting and forced 5 turnovers.

* Career Lists: Satern Moves into 9th in All-Time Assists
- Brent Satern had 19 assists in the Bruins' two games last week, giving him 39 for the season and 377 for his career. He passed Jordan Green (373, 1997-2001) and Dave Adrian (376, 1975-78, 79-80) to move into 9th place on the all-time GFU list. Ahead is Tom Hewitt (404, 1973-77) ...
* The Wirta Watch: "Biggs" Has Seen Over Half of All Bruin Games
Mike "Biggs" Wirta, who has been charting basketball statistics for the George Fox men's team since the 1970-71 season while he was an undergraduate student, hit a major milestone with the Bruins' second game vs. Colorado College in the Colorado College Tipoff Tournament on Nov. 16. It was the 1,027th game he has seen, which was exactly half of the 2,054 games that had been played in 104 years of Bruin basketball. With the Bruins' two home games last week, he has now seen 50.1% of all Bruin games ever played (1,030 of 2,057). He stretched his streak of consecutive GFU men's basketball games seen, both home and road, to 618. He has worked 440 in a row at home, not missing a home game since 1972 when he was in military service.
