Results

MEDFORD, Ore. - Led by a pair of 75's by Max Bonk and Taryn Braseth, the Pacific University Boxers have jumped to a 16-stroke lead after the first day of play in the George Fox University Invitational I men's golf tournament Sunday afternoon here at the Centennial Golf Course.

Pacific's four-best score is 314, followed by Willamette University at 330 and host George Fox at 367. Northwest Christian College has only two players competing as individuals and thus no team score.

Bonk and Braseth have four-stroke leads over third-place Shane Adversalo of Willamette at 79. Justin Ahrans of Northwest Christian is fourth at 80, and Alex Bennett of Willamette is fifth at 81. Pacific teammates Tim Andrew and Jason Nishakawa are tied for sixth at 82.

Host George Fox has four players under 100, led by Kelton Johnson at 87. Ben Ulrich carded an 89, David Burkhart a 93, and newcomer Brett Tharp, who did not play in the fall, a 98. This is the first year for George Fox to field a men's golf team.

Bruin coach Matt Beck reported the course to be in excellent condition, with dry fairways and fast greens. Wind was a contributing factor with steady 5-10 miles per hour breezes and gusts up to 20-30. The tournament will conclude Monday, with the first tee times set for 9:00 a.m.
