3/29/2008 - NWC SPRING CLASSIC: Bruins in 8th Place after Day One of NWC Spring Classic

Day 1 Results

BANKS, Ore. - With a four-player score of 354, the George Fox University Bruins are in eighth place out of nine teams after the first round of action in the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Spring Classic hosted by Pacific University Saturday here at the Quail Valley Golf Course.

Host Pacific has a nine-stroke lead over Linfield College, 293 to 302, going into the final day of play Sunday. Whitworth University is third at 309, followed by the University of Puget Sound at 322, Pacific Lutheran University at 323, Willamette University at 333, Whitman College at 340, George Fox, and Lewis & Clark College at 401.

The top score for the Bruins was a 43-40=83 by Kelton Johnson, which has him in a tie for 26th. Other counting scores for the Bruins were a 42-43=85 by David Burkhart, a 47-44=91 by Daniel Grierson, and a 45-50=95 by Ben Ulrich.

The leader after the first day was Max Bonk of Pacific with a 34-37=71, one stroke ahead of teammate Tim Andrew with a 38-34=72 and Linfield's Andrew Fitch with a 36-6=72.

The second and final round of play begins at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The NWC Spring Classic results will count one-quarter toward the final point total for standings in the conference.
