COMING UP: Lewis & Clark Event Added Along with Linfield 5-Way
* Mon., Oct. 1, 10:00 am - Lewis & Clark 5-Way Tournament, Oregon Golf Association Course, West Linn, Ore.
* Wed., Oct. 3, 12:30 pm - Linfield 5-Way, Michelbrook Country Club, McMinnville, Ore.
After adding the Lewis & Clark 5-Way Tournament, which was not a part of their schedule as originally announced, the Bruins will play two events in three days next week - the Lewis & Clark 5-Way on Monday and the Linfield 5-Way on Wednesday. Both are part of a series of events hosted by Northwest Conference schools for the Oregon teams which are members of the NWC: George Fox, Linfield, Willamette University, Pacific University, and Lewis & Clark. The four NWC teams in Washington also have their own series in the fall. All nine schools then come together for the NWC Fall Classic, with the results counting toward one-quarter of the team scores for determining the conference champion (the NWC Spring Classic counts another quarter and the NWC Championship in the spring counts for the final half).

BRUIN BITS:
* Johnson Named Bruin Athletic Association Athlete of the Week
Freshman Kelton Johnson has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Women's Athlete of the Week for Sept. 17-23 after posting the best round in the Bruins' first-ever men's golf tournament, an 87 in the Pacific 5-Way Tournament on Sept. 22 at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore. He carded a 39-48=87 to tie for 13th place, leading the Bruins to a tie for fourth place with a 368 score. He followed that up by leading the Bruins again on Sept. 24 with a score of 45-41=86 in the Willamette 5-Way.

* Bruins Gain Tie for 4th when Pacific 5-Way Results Revised
A revision of the scoring rules used in the Pacific 5-Way Tournament on Sept. 22 at the Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore., has lifted the Bruins from a fifth-place finish in their first event ever to a tie for fourth place with Lewis & Clark College, both with team scores of 368. The changes also resulted in a new winner of the tournament, with Linfield supplanted Pacific 309-311. Willamette was third at 345.
The changes came about because of two different scoring systems are used in college golf. GolfStats is the national program which tracks results for college teams, and the GolfStats system relies on the best four scores out of five golfers. Coaches must designate before a match which five players will play for counting scores (other team members may play, but their scores will not count). However, particular conferences are not bound by the GolfStats rules and may count as many scores as they agree upon. The Northwest Conference counts the best four out of six.
As originally reported by host Pacific, the GolfStats system was used, and the Bruins were fifth with 375 points in that system. With the change to the best-four-of-six, the Bruins were able to include Ben Ulrich's 101, picking up seven strokes to earn the tie with Lewis & Clark.
