10/1 - LEWIS & CLARK 5-WAY: Johnson Leads Bruins For 3rd Time but Team Again 5th
WEST LINN, Ore. - For the third time in as many matches this fall, freshman Kelton Johnson shot the best round for George Fox University's first-year men's golf team with an 18-hole score of 91, but the Bruins finished fifth for the second time in the Lewis & Clark College 5-Way Tournament Monday here at the Oregon Golf Club course.
Johnson's score of 46-45=91 left him 17th in the field of 29. Also counting for the Bruins were David Burkhart with a 50-45=95, Matt Simpson with a 52-45=97, and team captain Daniel Grierson with a 49-51=100, for a team score of 383. The Bruins tied for fourth in their first-ever match, the Pacific 5-Way on Sept. 22, and were fifth in the Willamette 5-Way on Sept. 24.
Linfield College captured the event with a score of 302, well ahead of runer-up Pacific University at 339. Host Lewis & Clark was third at 351, while Willamette University posted a 357 score. Linfield teammates Tyler Nelson and Andrew Fitch tied for medalist honors with rounds of 74.
The Bruins return to the links Wednesday in the Linfield 5-Way Tournament at Michelbook Country Club in McMinnvillle, Ore., with tee time set for 12:30 p.m.
