10/3 - LINFIELD 5-WAY: Bruins Record New Marks in Finishing 3rd at Linfield Event
McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Posting their best individual score, best team score, and best team finish in their brief four-match history, the George Fox University Bruins came in third in the Linfield College 5-Way Men's Golf Tournament Wednesday afternoon here at the Michelbook Country Club.
George Fox recorded a four-player team score of 353, trailing host Linfield and Pacific University, who tied for first at 296. Following the Bruins were Willamette University at 360 and Lewis & Clark at 368. The Bruins topped their previous best score of 361, set at the Willamette 5-Way on Sept. 24, and surpassed the fourth-place tie they had in their first match, the Pacific 5-Way, on Sept. 22.
David Burkhart led the Bruins with an 18-hole score of 43-40=83, finishing 14th overall. His score bettered the Bruins' previous best of an 86 by Kelton Johnson in the Willamette 5-Way by three strokes. He was followed by Johnson with a 45-41=86, Ben Ulrich with a 47-44=91, and Matt Simpson with a 49-44=93 for the Bruins' other counting scores.
Medalist honors went to Tyler Nelson of Linfield, who edged Tim Andrew of Pacific, 71-72.
The Bruins next host the George Fox 5-Way Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course in Newberg. Tee time is set for 12:00 noon.
