10/21 - NWC FALL CLASSIC: Bruins 9th After Day 1 of Fall Classic but Could Move Up
SPOKANE, Wash. - In their first competitive match against all of the Northwest Conference teams, the first-year George Fox University Bruins carded a score of 357 and stand in ninth place after the first day's play in the NWC Fall Classic Sunday afternoon here at the Spokane Country Club.
Linfield College holds a slim lead over Pacific University, 300 to 303, with Pacific Lutheran University right behind at 305. Host Whitworth University is fourth at 311, followed by the University of Puget Sound at 316, Willamette University at 328, Lewis & Clark College at 346, Whitman College at 353, and then the Bruins.
The top score for the Bruins was posted by David Burkhart, whose 41-41=82 stands 28th individually. Other counting scores for the Bruins came from Daniel Grierson at 48-43=91, Kelton Johnson at 45-46=91, and Matt Simpson at 45-48=93. Ben Ulrich shot a 50-48=98.
Chris Packard of Pacific Lutheran is the individual leader halfway through the tournament with a three-under-par 35-34=69. He holds a four-stroke lead over Ben Wright of Pacific, who shot a 37-36=73.
The second and final day of play begins Monday at 9:00 a.m.
