Results

SPOKANE, Wash. - Consistency was the name of the game for the George Fox University Bruins as they shot a second-day score of 358 after a 357 on the first day, but all it added up to was a final score of 715 and a ninth-place finish in the 2007 Northwest Conference Men's Golf Fall Golf Classic, the first one ever for the first-year Bruins, Monday here at the Spokane Country Club.

Linfield College captured the event with a two-day score of 300-304=604, edging host Whitworth University, which shot a 311-297=608. Pacific University was third at 303-308=611, followed by Pacific Lutheran University at 305-314=619, the University of Puget Sound at 316-314=630, Willamette University at 328-333=661, Lewis & Clark College at 346-338=684, Whitman College at 353-344=697, and George Fox with its 357-358=715.

David Burkhart was again the hottest Bruin on the second day, carding a 39-38=77 to go with his 82 on the first day for a final score of 159, which tied for 20th overall. The Bruins' other three counting scores on Monday came from Kelton Johnson with a 47-45=92, Ben Ulrich with a 50-44=94, and Matt Simpson with a 46-49=95. Kelton shot 91-93=183 overall, Simpson 93-95=188, and Ulrich 98-94=192. The Bruins' fifth golfer, team captain Daniel Grierson, shot a 91-100=191.

Chris Packard of Pacific Lutheran won the individual medalist honors with a final total of 69-74=143, leading the co-runners up by five shots. Jordan Carter (76-72) of Whitworth and Tyler Nelson (73-75) of Linfield each shot a 148. Carter's 72 was the best round of the second day. Packard is guaranteed a spot on the 2007-08 All-Northwest Conference team by virtue of his individual win at this event.

Each team gets one point for each team it finished ahead of that count toward the final NWC golf standings in the spring. Linfield thus earned eight points toward the final NWC golf standings. The NWC Fall Classic counts 25% toward the final conference standings, the NWC Spring Classic will count 25%, and the end-of-the-year NWC Tournament will count 50%.
