9/7 - MENLO 2, GEORGE FOX 1: Bruins Spot Oaks One Goal Too Many

Box Score

ATHERTON, Calif. - A second-half goal by Erich Hangartner of George Fox University was not enough to offset a pair of goals allowed by the Bruins in the first half as the Menlo College Oaks hung on for a 2-1 win in a non-conference men's soccer game Friday afternoon here at Wunderlich Fied.

Kristian Hagen scored his third goal of the season at the 18:16 minute mark to give Menlo an early lead, knocking the ball to the left corner past George Fox goalkeeper Kyle Putnam in a one-on-one situation. Oswaldo Rodriquez headed in the eventual winning goal at 33:31 off a corner kick by Martin Saravia.

Hangartner cut the lead to 2-1 with his first goal of the season for the Bruins at 66:09 in the second half, scoring unassisted after a blocked shot, but the Oaks defense tightened up after that.

George Fox out-shot Menlo 15-14 and had a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. Menlo keeper Brandon Evangelista recorded four saves, while the Bruins had two saves, both by Jake Maguire in the second half.

The Bruins (2-2) visit California State University-East Bay Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Oaks (2-1) host Biola University Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
