3/18 - GEORGE FOX 7, LEWIS & CLARK 2: Bruins Complete Season Sweep of Series with Pios
NEWBERG, Ore. - Capturing all of the doubles and the middle four singles, the George Fox University Bruins defeated the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers for the second time this season with a 7-2 victory in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match Sunday afternoon here at the GFU campus courts.
The Bruins started strongly as Kyle Pearson and Nick Jenness knocked off the Pios' David Lindsay and Luke Wheeler 8-3 at #1 doubles, Jordon Vargas and Mac Ovenell downed George Allen and Pater Ray 8-4 at #2, and Ralf Schulz and Shawn McKenzie dropped Andrew Moller and Matthias Kullowatz 8-5 at #3.
Winning singles for the Bruins were Ovenell over Lindsay 6-4, 6-2 at #2, Jenness over Wheeler 4-0, injury default at #3, Schulz over Ray 6-3, 6-2 at #4, and Vargas over Moller 6-4, 6-0 at #5. The singles wins for the Pioneers came from Allen over Pearson 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) at #1, and Kullowatz over McKenzie 6-0, 6-2 at #6.
Both teams will be off for a while with spring breaks coming up. George Fox (3-8, NWC 3-8) is off until Friday, Mar. 30, when the Bruins will visit Whitman College for a 4 p.m. match. Lewis & Clark (2-8, NWC 2-8) plays at Whitman Saturday, Mar. 31, at 2 p.m.
