9/28 - ITA REGIONAL: Rookie Jenness Posts Bruins' Top Record in Pacific Northwest Regional

NEWBERG, Ore. - Men's tennis player Nick Jenness has received the Bruin Athletic Association award as Men's Athlete of the Week for Sept. 18-24 after the George Fox University freshman went 2-2 in the prestigious Pacific Northwest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament Sept. 22-24 at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.

Jenness posted the best record of the three Bruins to participate. Shawn McKenzie and Jordon Vargas each went 0-2, while Vargas and Jenness went 0-1 in doubles.

Jenness opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Jared Vidano of Pacific Lutheran University, then posted wins over Stephan Bergland of the University of Puget Sound 6-3, 6-2, and Rich Minice of Linfield College 6-3, 7-5. He dropped his final match to Jasper Follows of Whitman 6-2, 6-4.

McKenzie fell to Luke Rembold of Linfield 6-4, 6-1, and Dan Davydov of Puget Sound 6-4, 6-2. Vargas was defeated by Geoff Klein of Willamette University 1-6, 6-1, (10-4), and Follows 7-5, 6-3. Vargas and Jenness lost the doubles match 8-4 to Klein and Jeff Hancock of Willamette.

The Pacific Northwest ITA Regional was the only fall tournament for the Bruins that will count on player records.
