5/10 - SPU FOREMAN INVITATIONAL: Baron with a 2nd in Triple Jump Tops Bruin Efforts in Seattle

Complete Results

SEATTLE, Wash. - With a second in the women's triple jump, Kelsey Baron had the top finish by a small contingent of George Fox University Bruins who competed in the Ken Foreman Track and Field Invitational, hosted by Seattle Pacific University at the University of Washington's Husky Stadium, here Saturday (May 10).

Baron jumped 37-3 to a 39-10.75 by Washington's Brittiny Roberts. She has already posted a best effort this season of 38-11, a mark that ranks 11th nationally and is a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The Bruins' Jo Boatright came in 3rd in the women's long jump with a distance of 17-3.25, but she already has a provisional qualifying mark of 18-9 that ranks 7th in the country. She also had an 8th-place finish in the high jump at 5-3, but has jumped 5-6 to qualify provisionally and rank 4th in the nation.

Michelle Forbes also high jumped 5-3 for the Bruins, placing 7th because of fewer jumps required than her teammate. She has a 5-6 this season to rank 11th nationally and qualify provisionally. Emily Ruggles and Chelsi Williamson also competed in the high jump for George Fox, but neither posted marks.

Over on the men's side, there were only two George Fox athletes entered. Micheal Owen placed 5th in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:23.57, only 7/100 short of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark, and Steven Beardsley was 14th in the 400 meter hurdles at 58.56.

Complete results of the Foreman Invitational meet are available from the George Fox athletics web site at www.georgefox.edu/athletics/track.

The next competition for the Bruins will be the Willamette Last Chance Meet on Saturday (May 17) in Salem, Ore. The NCAA Nationals are set for May 23-25 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.
