LIZ THOMPSON

Track & Field Assistant Coach

A two-time NAIA All-American for the George Fox Bruins, Liz (Stephens) Thompson brings her knowledge and experience back to her alma mater for a second season as an assistant coach for the Bruin track and field programs. A native of Bellevue, Wash., and a graduate of Newport High, Thompson competed for the Bruins in both track and basketball from 1992-96. In track, she finished 4th in both the 400 hurdles and the 4x400 relays in the NAIA National Championships during her senior season. In the Bruin record book, she ranks 1st in the 400 meter low hurdles (61.29) and the 4x400 relays (3:46.06), 2nd in the heptathlon and the 100 hurdles, 3rd in the 800, and 7th in the 400.

Thompson ranks in the basketball top 10 in several statistical categories, including 6th in scoring (1,197 points), 7th in rebounds (566), 8th in blocks (68), and 6th in field goal pct. (.456), After graduating from George Fox with a business degree in 1996, Thompson served as an assistant in current head coach Scott Rueck's first year in '96-97. She was head basketball coach and an assistant coach in track at Interlake High School in Bellevue from 1998-2000. Thompson married former George Fox baseball player and current assistant baseball coach Mike Thompson in April of 2000 and the couple moved back to Oregon, where she took a job with the Portland Fire Department. The Thompsons live in Dayton, Ore., where they delight in Josie, their pet weimaraner.
