3/24/2008 - PT. LOMA MULTIS: Leighty Hits NCAA Provisional Mark in Pt. Loma Heptathlon

Decathlon Results / Heptathlon Results (corrected)

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Due to an error in the computer scoring, George Fox University's Melissa Leighty was inadvertantly deleted from the final results of the Point Loma Nazarene University heptathlon on Mar. 20-21, but with the corrections made, she finished sixth with 4,170 points, meeting the provisional qualifying mark of 4,000 points for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Leighty's best events on Thursday were the200 meter dash, in which she was 2nd (26.02), and the 110 meter hurdles (15.18), in which she was 3rd. Both marks are the best in the Northwest Conference this season. Her best event on Friday was the long jump, in which she placed 3rd (17-2/5.23m). That ties her for the 3rd-best long jump in the NWC this spring.

Terah Laack finished seventh for the Bruins with 3,742 points. She took a 3rd in the javelin (95-3/29.04m) and a 4th in the 800 meter dash (2:26.84) for her best finishes on Friday.

In the men's decathlon, the Bruins took the top four spots, Ben Dillow leading the way with 6,920 points, followed by Ryan Forbes with 6,409, David Dillow with 5,880, and Nate Dillow with 5,653. Ben Dillow qualified automatically for the NCAAs, while Forbes qualified provisionally.

The Bruin track and field teams will next compete in the Westmont Retro Dual in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Wednesday.
