FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Rachel Giffey-Brohaugh broke her own women’s 800 meter run school record while finishing second in the event and the George Fox University Bruins met three NCAA Division III provisional qualifying marks while winning four events in the Pacific University Twilight track and field meet Saturday afternoon and evening here at the Lincoln Park Stadium.

Giffey-Brohaugh’s time of 2:12.67 in the 800, which trailed only Jordyn Smith of Willamette University who ran a 2:11.38, topped the record-breaking 2:12.92 she ran in the Oregon Twilight meet last year on May 5.  It easily beat the NCAA provisional mark of 2:15.00 and is the 8th-best mark in the nation thus far.

In other women’s events, JulieKay Brown captured the 400 meter dash in a time of 57.58, Cindy Walsh took the long jump with a distance of 18-5.75/5.63m, and the 4x100 meter relay team of Elisha Kampfe, Irene Johnson, Mollie Honan and Melissa Leighty came in first with a time of 48.79.  Walsh topped the NCAA long jump provisional standard of 18-1.5/5.52m and posted the 9th-best jump nationally so far.  Brown was 8/100ths of a second off the 400 provisional mark and the 4x100 team missed a provisional mark by 14/100ths of a second.

Sarah Curry equaled the NCAA provisional mark for the pole vault when she cleared 11-5.75/3.50m, finishing third in the event and tying for the 19th-best vault in the nation.  Other top finishes for the Bruin women included a second by Leighty in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.32, and thirds by Honan in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:06.08 and Katie Alaimo in the high jump at 4-11.75/1.52m.  George Fox assistant coach Michelle Forbes, a former All-American in the high jump, won the event with a mark of 5-6/1.68m.

Jake Weber was the only Bruin men’s athlete to win an event, capturing the long jump with a distance of 22-1/6.73m.  Second place in the 110 hurdles went to Nate Dillow with a time of 15.60, and thirds went to Ryan MacKenzie in the 400 meter hurdles in 55.95 and Cam Eberhart in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:59.77.
