John Knight Twilight Results (M&W)

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Although they did not post any new NCAA Division III qualifying marks, the George Fox University Bruins still competed well enough to capture three events in the John Knight Twilight track and field meet Saturday evening here at Western Oregon University.

In the women’s 100 meter hurdles, Melissa Leighty came the closest to an NCAA mark, winning the race with a time of 15.07, just 7/100ths of a second from a provisional mark.  The women’s 4x100 team of Jessica Brassard, Irene Johnson, Mollie Honan, and Leighty also narrowly missed an NCAA mark with a time of 48.78, only 13/100ths of a second off.  The Bruins also took first in the women’s long jump as Sierra Whitehill leaped 16-4.25/4.98m for the win.

The Bruins dominated the women’s 100 hurdles, with Johnson in 15.67 finishing second and Lizzie Alaimo in 15.90 third behind Leighty.  Other women’s seconds went to Sarah Curry in the pole vault (11-0.75/3.37m), Katie Alaimo in the high jump (4-11/1.50m), and Hannah Printz in the shot put (33-8.75/10.28m).  Finishing third was Bethany Adams in the 400 meter dash (1:03.31).

For the Bruin men, seconds were recorded by Nate Dillow in the 110 meter hurdles (15.71), Can Eberhart in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:53.24), Joel Krebs in the javelin (187-2/57.04m), and assistant coach Doug Beatty in the long jump (20-9.75/6.34m).  Krebs, the defending NCAA national javelin champion, was 10 inches short of a provisional mark.  Thirds were posted by Brian Terletzky in the 400 meter dash (52.58) and John Zaganiacz in the 400 meter hurdles (56.69).

The final event of the regular season for the Bruins is coming up Thursday, May 15, at 3:30 p.m. in the Willamette University Last Chance meet.  The NCAA Division III National Championships are set for Thursday-Saturday, May 22-24, at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
